Queen Margrethe’s 60th Birthday, 2000

Happy Birthday to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, who turns 79 today! The Danish Queen has hosted a variety of glittering celebrations to mark milestone birthdays in her family (including one scheduled for her sister, Princess Benedikte’s 75th Birthday later this month), and today we are taking a look at her lavish 60th Birthday Celebrations on this day in 2000.

The Birthday celebrations started with a Gala Performance of ‘The Kermesse in Bruges’ at the Royal Danish Theatre, where Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik of Denmark led the Royal Guests and Relatives.

The following morning, the Danish Royal Family waved to crowds from the Balcony of Amalienborg Palace, followed by a Service of Thanksgiving, a Carriage Procession through Copenhagen, and a Reception at the City Hall.

In the evening, Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik hosted a glittering Banquet and Ball at Christiansborg Palace.
