The Prince and Princess of Wales started their famous visit to Washington, D.C. on this day in 1985. In honour of the anniversary, we are taking a look at some of the highlights of the visit-
The Prince and Princess of Wales were welcomed by President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Mrs Nancy Reagan at the White House.
In the evening, the President and First Lady held an Official Dinner and Dance at the White House, during which the Princess Of Wales (wearing her Sapphire Choker), famously danced with John Travolta.
The next day, the couple visited the National Gallery of Art and a JC Penny Store, before the Prince and Princess of Wales (wearing Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara) hosted then Vice-President George Bush and Barbara Bush at an official dinner at the British Ambassador’s Residence.
The following day, the Prince and Princess attended a Service of Remembrance at Arlington National Cemetery, held in honour of Remembrance Day. In the evening, the Prince and Princess (in her Qatar Pearl Earrings) attended a Gala Dinner at the National Gallery of Art.
On their final evening in the United States, the Prince and Princess of Wales (wearing her Spencer Choker) attended a Charity Dinner in Aid of United World Collages in Miami, with many celebrities, including Joan Collins and Zsa Zsa Gabor.

In the evening, the Prince and Princess of Wales (wearing a Murray Arbeid gown with Queen Mary’s Lovers Knot Tiara and her Collingwood Pearl Earrings) hosted, among others, then Vice-President George Bush and Barbara Bush at an official dinner at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Washington, D.C.
