Crown Prince Pavlos’ Wedding Gala, 1995

Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece and Marie-Chantal Miller’s Wedding Gala at Wrotham Park on this day in 1995, two days before their wedding, which began with a champagne reception followed by a Dinner and a Ball for 1,300 guests in a marquee that resembled the Parthenon in Athens. There was also an 18th-century carousel in the garden, a fireworks display, and ended with a champagne breakfast the following morning. Royal Guests and Relatives in attendance included Queen Ingrid, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik of Denmark, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, the Duke of Edinburgh, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden (wearing the Swedish Pink Topaz Parure), King Hussein and Queen Noor of Jordan, Empress Farah of Iran, King Albert and Queen Paola of Belgium, Grand Duke Jean and Grand Duchess Josephine Charlotte of Luxembourg, King Michael and Queen Anne of Romania, Tsar Simeon II and Queen Margarita of Bulgaria, Princess Benedikte of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg, the Prince of Orange, Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Yugoslavia, and the Aga Khan.

  1. Wow! Mama and Papa Miller went all out for their daughter’s wedding! And why not? They’re extremely rich, so they gave many people a lot of pleasure and many more people employment. I can’t begin to imagine how much the Italian carousel cost or the fabulous dinner for that many guests. But, if people like Mr. and Mrs. Miller would be content with a small dinner at home and didn’t give these parties, who would all these people cater for? I say if you have it, spend it, and thus spread it around!
