Members of the British Royal family celebrated the Queen’s Official Birthday by attending the annual Trooping the Colour ceremony in London on June 2nd, launching the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend Festivities. They rode on horses and in carriages to inspect the guards at Horse Guards Parade and then watched a RAF Flypast from the Balcony of Buckingham Palace. The Duke of Cambridge presided over the Colonel’s Review of the Irish Guards last week.
The Prince of Wales hosted the first annual Garden Party of 2022 at Buckingham Palace on May 11th, for the first time since 2019. There are usually four annual Garden Parties hosted by the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace and the Palace of Holyrood House for around 30,000 guests yearly, as well as a few special others, though the Queen has announced in advance that she will not be attending any of the Garden Parties this year. Royal Families from around the world joined the British Royal Family for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Memorial Service at Westminster Abbey on March 29th, to celebrate the life and legacy of the extraordinary public figure that was HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, after his Funeral last April had to be modified due to the Pandemic.
The Queen was accompanied by her cousin, the Duke of Kent and Colonel of the Scots Guards as she viewed the Military Parade in the Quadrangle of Windsor Castle to mark Her Majesty’s Official Birthday, on June 12th. The Trooping of the Colour has marked the official birthday of the British Sovereign for over 250 years, but unlike previous years, this year’s grand ceremony in London was cancelled, like last year, due to the ongoing pandemic.
The entire British Royal Family and some special Foreign Royal Guests attended the Ceremonial Royal Funeral of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on April 17th. The oldest and longest serving Consort to the longest-reigning Monarch in British History, the Duke passed away peacefully last week at Windsor Castle a few months before his 100th Birthday, and was heavily involved in the planning of his own Funeral, though they have been modified due to the ongoing Pandemic.
The Queen and members of the Royal Family attended the annual Remembrance Sunday Service at the Cenotaph on Whitehall in London on Remembrance Sunday, November 8th, honouring those who have lost their lives in conflict, with this year marking the Centenary of the unveiling of the Cenotaph and the 75th Anniversary of the End of the Second World War. The Queen hosted her annual Christmas Lunch for members of the extended British Royal Family at Buckingham Palace on December 18th. This lunch is held for those family members who aren’t invited to spend Christmas with the Queen at Sandringham in Norfolk, due to lack of space.
