Happy Birthday to Queen Saleha of Brunei, who turns 80 today! The illustrious Princess who married her first cousin, the Sovereign of the wealthy Sultanate, and is now the world’s longest-serving Queen Consort, Queen Saleha has a massive jewellery collection, which includes this versatile Diamond Tiara!
The exact origin of this Diamond Tiara is not known, but it was likely created by Graff with modern-cut diamonds, which can be alternatingly topped with pear-shaped Diamonds, a large heart-shaped Diamond, and also blue and pink Diamonds.
Queen Saleha began wearing this Diamond Tiara in the early 1990s, when it made several notable appearances during the Brunei State Visit to Britain in 1992 and the Sultan of Brunei’s Silver Jubilee in 1992.
The Diamond Tiara was frequently worn by Queen Saleha for numerous Ceremonies and Banquets over the next few years, including for the Wedding of Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah of Brunei in 2004.
In June 2007, Princess Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah wore the Diamond Tiara when she married Pengiran Khairul Khalil.
From 2013, Queen Saleha began topping the Diamond Tiara with a large heart-shaped Diamond instead of the central pear-shaped Diamond, which as worn for the Dutch State Visit to Brunei in 2013, the Sultan of Brunei’s Golden Jubilee in 2017, and most recently the King of Malaysia’s Installation Banquet in 2024 and the Sultan’s 80th Birthday earlier this year.
Princess Fadzillah Lubabul wore Queen Saleha’s Diamond Tiara when she married Awang Abdullah Nabil Mahmoud Al-Hashimi in 2022, topping the uppermost row of pear-spared diamonds with blue and pink diamonds.
Princess Azemah of Brunei wore the Diamond Tiara topped with the heart-shaped Diamond when she married Prince Bahar Bolkiah in 2023.
The following year, Pengiran Anak Isteri (Princess) Anisha Rosnah of Brunei, wore Queen Saleha’s Diamond Tiara topped with blue and pink diamonds for the a spectacular Majlis Persantapan Diraja (Wedding Banquet following her Wedding to Prince Mateen of Brunei. There is no doubt we will see it for years to come!
