Wedding of Princess Azemah of Brunei and Prince Bahar Bolkiah

Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah of Brunei, the eight child and fifth daughter of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, with his second wife, Puan Mariam binti Abdul Aziz, married her first cousin, Prince Bahar ibni Jefri Bolkiah, the son of Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei, in series of ceremonies at the Istana Nurul Iman in Bandar Seri Begawan last week.  

Celebrations began with the Istiadat Berbedak Pengantin Diraja, the Royal Powdering Ceremony, at the at Balai Singgahsana Indera Buana in the Istana Nurul Iman on January 11th. The powdering ceremony is when the couple’s families bless them by putting colored rice powder and scented oils on their hands.

   

Following the Islamic Ceremony at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque, Wedding of Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah of Brunei and Prince Bahar Bolkiah took place in the Majlis Istiadat Bersanding Pengantin Diraja or Royal Bersanding Ceremony at the Istana Nurul Iman in Bandar Seri Begawan. Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Riayatuddin Shah, the Tengku Arif Bendahara of Pahang, Tengku Fahd Mu’adzam of Pahang, the Tengku Arif Temenggong, and Princess Aminah Maimunah Iskandaria of Johor and Dato’ Dennis Muhammad Abdullah were among the Royal Guests who joined the Brunei Royal Family.

The following evening, there was a Majlis Persantapan Diraja, Reception, for Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah of Brunei (wearing Queen Saleha’s Diamond Heart Tiara) and Prince Bahar Bolkiah at the Istana Nurul Iman, which was also attended by the Brunei Royal Family and Royal Guests.
