Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, grandmother of King Willem-Alexander, was inaugurated as Queen on this day in 1948, after the Abdication of her mother, Queen Wilhelmina. In honour of the day, we are featuring the coronation below-
The Inauguration took place at the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam.
Guest of honour was the new Princess Wilhelmina.

Queen Juliana gave a speech and declared her oath in front of two chairs on a platform.
Afterwards, Queen Juliana, Prince Bernhard, and their daughters waved to the crowds from the balcony of the Royal Palace of Amsterdam.

Guests included Queen Elisabeth of Belgium, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Sweden, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Norway, Princess Margaret, the Earl of Athlone and Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, and Prince Axel and Princess Margretha of Denmark.

Queen Juliana wore navy blue gown with a jeweled cap, the necklace of the Dutch Ruby Peacock Parure, the Stomacher brooch of the Mellerio Ruby Parure, the Military William Order, and an ermine cape. Prince Bernhard wore Uniform with the Order of the Netherlands Lion.

The last of a series of grand events included a gala performance, attended by foreign royals, on September 8th. Royal Tiaras on display included Queen Juliana in the Stuart Tiara and Parure, Queen Elisabeth of Belgium in her Cartier Bandeau Tiara, and Crown Princess (later Queen) Louise of Sweden in the 9-Prong Tiara.
