Wedding of Paul of Greece and Frederica of Hanover

Today marks the Wedding anniversary of King Paul and Queen Frederica of Greece, who got married on this day in 1938 in Athens. Among the wedding guests of the then Crown Prince Paul of Greece and Princess Frederica of Hanover (daughter of the Duke of Brunswick, first cousin of her groom, and granddaughter of the last Kaiser of Prussia as well as the great-great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria) were the groom’s siblings; King George of Greece, Queen Helen of Romania with her son King Michael, Princess Irene of Greece, and Princess Katherine of Greece. Also present were their mutual cousins the Duke and Duchess of Kent, as well as Prince and Princess Paul of Yugoslavia and the future Duke of Edinburgh in the background.

Note: Paul and Frederica became King and Queen of Greece in 1947. They are the parents of King Constantine II of Greece and Queen Sofia of Spain as well as Princess Irene of Greece.
