Ingegjerd Løvenskiold’s Diamond Tiara

Happy Birthday to Ingegjerd Løvenskiold, who turns 95 today! The Norwegian Noble who first married a prominent Norwegian Industrialist and later a former U.S. Ambassador to Norway, Ingegjerd Løvenskiold has worn this spectacular Diamond Tiara as the Mistress of the Robes to Queen Sonja over the past four decades!

While the exact provenance is unknown, the Diamond Tiara may have originated from the central portion of the Tiara worn by Harald Løvenskiold’s great-grandmother, Elise Løvenskiold, who was the Mistress of the Robes from 1887 to 1905.

After she was appointed the Overhoffmesterinne, Mistress of the Robes, in 1985, the Diamond Tiara was worn by Ingegjerd Løvenskiold for King Olav’s 85th Birthday Banquet at the Akershus Fortress in Oslo in 1988.

In 1990, Ingegjerd Løvenskiold wore the Diamond Tiara for the Luxembourg State Banquet to the Royal Palace of Oslo.

While Ingegjerd Løvenskiold was relieved of her duties following her second marriage to Robert Stuart, the former U.S. Ambassador to Norway, and moved to Illinois, she retained her Title and Rank, notably wearing the Diamond Tiara for King Harald’s 70th Birthday in 2007. Let’s hope we see the Diamond Tiara worn again soon!
