The Wedding of Crown Prince Paul of Greece (in the Order of the Redeemer and the Order of Saints George and Constantine) and Princess Frederica of Hanover (wearing Queen Sophie’s Diamond Tiara with the Hanover Nuptial Crown and the Order of Saints Olga and Sophia) at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens on this day in 1938. The couple became the parents of King Constantine II of Greece, Queen Sofia of Spain, and Princess Irene of Greece, and acceded to the throne in 1947, remaining happily married until his death in 1964.
Among the royal guests and relatives were King George of Greece, Queen Helen of Romania with her son King Michael, Princess Irene, and Princess Katherine, the Duke and Duchess of Kent, Prince and Princess Paul of Yugoslavia, and Prince Phillip of Greece, the future Duke of Edinburgh.
