King Harald and Queen Sonja’s 80th Birthday Gala

The Norwegian Government hosted a Gala at the Opera in Oslo for King Harald and Queen Sonja’s 80th Birthday on the evening of May 10th. Members of Foreign Royal Families were present. On May 9th, the King and Queen hosted a Banquet at the Royal Palace. The Norwegian Royal Family and their guests drove along Oslo’s Karl Johans Gate on their way to the Opera, where they were hosted by the Norwegian Government at a gala dinner. The Norwegian Prime Minister gave a speech, later the Royals will view fireworks. Members of the Swedish, Danish, Belgian, Dutch, Greek, British, Luxembourgish, and Spanish Royal Families were present. The Presidents and First Ladies of Finland and Iceland were also present.

King Harald wore Black Tie. Queen Sonja wore a pale blue gown (designed by the Queen and made by staff at the Norwegian Opera) with multi strands of pearls, pearl and diamond earrings, and a diamond flower in her hair.

Crown Prince Haakon wore a navy jacket and trousers with Black Tie. Crown Princess Mette-Marit wore a Marte Krogh navy lace gown with her red stone drop earrings (which were worn with pearls yesterday). Princess Astrid wore a pink gown with pearls.

The Countess of Wessex wore a new silver gown with statement earrings. Princess Martha Louise wore an Ingunn Birkeland gown with statement earrings.

Queen Margrethe wore a navy lace gown with Queen Alexandrine’s Sapphire Demi-Parure. Queen Anne Marie of Greece wore her floral gown with a large pearl necklace and bracelet and the earrings and pendent from the Greek Emerald Parure.
