Queen’s Christmas Speech 2016

The Queen’s annual Christmas message was broadcast at 3pm GMT on Christmas Day on ITV. In her 64th annual Christmas Broadcast, the Queen reflected on 2016 and what Christmas means to her in her 90th Birthday year. The message was recorded in Buckingham Palace’s Regency Room earlier this month.

The Queen said during the speech “I often draw strength from meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things: volunteers, carers, community organisers and good neighbours; unsung heroes whose quiet dedication makes them special. They are an inspiration to those who know them.” She praised this year’s Olympic athletes for “having discovered abilities they scarcely knew they had, these athletes are now inspiring others” and mentioned the 60th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards and the 40th anniversary of the Prince’s Trust. She also mentioned the Patron’s Lunch in June and and a visit to the East Anglia Air Ambulance Base in July.

The Queen wore a deep jade silk cloque dress by Angela Kelly with her customary Three Strand Pearl Necklace and Queen Victoria’s 11 Pearl Brooch. On her desk was the 90th birthday photo recently released of the Queen and Prince of Wales.
