Norwegian State Visit to Scotland, 1962

The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh hosted King Olav V of Norway on his State Visit to Scotland on this day in 1962, following a visit in 1959. The British and Norwegian Royal Families are very closely related through the British-born Queen Maud of Norway, a sister of the Queen’s grandfather, King George V. The Queen and Duke’s State Visit to Norway in 1955 was the first outgoing State Visit of her Reign, followed by another in 1981, and one in 2001, and they hosted the Norwegian Royal Family in 1959, 1962, 1988, 1994, and 2005. The Royal Family have also frequently holidayed with the Norwegian Royal Family, most notably in 1969. Continue reading

Queen Olga’s Diamond Rivière

Today marks the 25th Anniversary of the Death of Princess Olga of Yugoslavia, who passed away on this day in 1997! The illustrious Greek Princess, a cousin of the reigning & former Crowned Heads of Europe, who married the much maligned Second World War Regent of Yugoslavia and spent much of her life in exile, Princess Olga possessed a spectacular jewellery collection, the highlight of which was this splendid Diamond Rivière from her namesake grandmother!

Ligne de La Trémoïlle Tiara

Happy Birthday to Princess Marie de Ligne la Trémoïlle, who turns 100 today! The French Aristocrat married into the Trémoïlle Branch of the illustrious Ligne Princely Family, Princess Marie, known in the family as Princess Yayo, was pictured wearing this spectacular Diamond Tiara which we are featuring today! 

UPDATE: Princess ‘Yayo’ passed away in March 2023 at the age of 100.
