Royal Tiaras in Season 5 of The Crown

Netflix has just released the trailer of the 5th Season of The Crown, which premieres on the 9th of November. Compared to the past four seasons of The Crown, in which the jewels have been as phoney as some of the storylines, it appears there has been special attention paid to Tiaras from the Royal Collection worn to specific events!

There are several prominent royal jewels in the promotional photos of Season 5, namely the Belgian Sapphire Tiara, George VI Sapphire Earrings, and Prince Albert’s Sapphire Brooch worn by Imelda Staunton’s Queen Elizabeth II while Elizabeth Debicki’s Princess of Wales appears to be wearing the Collingwood Pearl Earrings, and Lesley Manville’s Princess Margaret was in the Lotus Flower Tiara.

Looking at the trailer, several scenes appear to have inspired by private events depicted in the 1991/92 documentary, Elizabeth R, among them being the Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace in 1991, which was hosted by the Queen and members of the Royal Family.

We caught a glimpse of the Queen wearing Queen Alexandra’s Kokoshnik Tiara, the Queen Mother in the Greville Tiara, Princess Diana in Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot Tiara, Princess Margaret in Lotus Flower Tiara, and Princess Anne seeming to wear her Festoon Tiara.

Another glimpse of Tiaras came at what appears to be a Ghillies Ball, inspired by the Ghillies Ball at Balmoral Castle in 1991, also depicted in Elizabeth R, which shows the Queen in the Girls of Great Britain & Ireland Tiara, Queen Mother in the Greville Tiara, Queen Alexandra’s Wedding Necklace, and Queen Alexandra’s Wedding Brooch, and Princess Margaret in Lotus Flower Tiara with her Ruby and Diamond Brooch.
