King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden are on a State Visit to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the invitation of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan, almost two decades after the Jordanian State Visit to Sweden in 2003, and more than three decades after the last Swedish State Visit to Jordan.
Today marks the 85th Anniversary of the Death of the Hesse Royal Family, who died in a tragic plane crash enroute to London for a family Wedding! The crash killed not only the Grand Duke Georg Donatus of Hesse-Darmstadt, his wife, Princess Cecilie, Grand Duchess of Hesse, and their sons, Prince Ludwig, and Prince Alexander, but also his mother, Dowager Grand Duchess Eleanor, but the family heirlooms they were taking to London survived the crash in a strongbox, so thus we are featuring a jewel worn by both Grand Duchess Eleanor and Princess Cecilie; The Hesse Medieval Emerald Tiara!

The daughter of the Duke of Parma and Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria who married the Duke of Calabria and became the aunt of King Juan Carlos of Spain, Infanta Alicia possessed an absolutely spectacular collection of Heirloom Jewels, the highlight of which was Queen Marie Antoinette’s Pearl Necklace!

Today marks the 115th Anniversary of the Birth of the late Queen Giovanna of Bulgaria, who was born on this day in 1907! The Italian Princess who married the Bulgarian Tsar that was poisoned by Hitler, and spent much of her life in exile, Queen Giovanna possessed some spectacular jewels, which included this Art Deco Pearl and Diamond Tiara!
Next month, Countess Camilla, Countess Josephine, and Countess Feodora of Rosenborg, are auctioning Jewels from the collection of their late aunt, Princess Elisabeth of Denmark, at Bruun Rasmussen on December 1st, which includes Princess Thyra’s Sapphire Tiara! In 2019, the Countesses sold Queen Alexandrine’s Russian Sapphire Tiara at Auction.
When Princess Elizabeth (later Queen Elizabeth II) married Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark 75 years ago, the couple received over 2,500 gifts, which were sent from family, heads-of-state, and well-wishers around the world, which included spectacular Royal Heirlooms alongside household items, food, and clothing. The gifts were displayed at St James’s Palace between November 1947 and March 1948, and were seen by over 200,000 visitors.
Today marks the 140th Anniversary of the Birth of King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden was born on this day in 1882! The Swedish King who married first a granddaughter and later a great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria, the King is the grandfather of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, so thus members of the Danish, Norwegian, and Greek Royal Families joined the Swedish Royal Family to celebrate the King’s Birthdays in 1942, 1952, 1962 and 1972!
