Charles Herbert, Capt R’N.” Sir Francis Vincent, 10th Baronet (1803 – 1880) was an English Politician, and married his wife Augusta in 1824. His wife Augusta was the only daughter of Charles Herbert, who was a British Royal Navy Officer and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1806 to 1807.

Annabel Astor, Viscountess Astor née Jones (b. 1948) successfully ran her eponymous jewellery business, “Annabel Jones” on Beauchamp Place in Knightsbridge for over thirty years after first opening her doors in 1967, aged just 19. Annabel recognised that women were beginning to earn their own money so betrothal and inheritance were no longer the only means of acquiring jewellery and she quickly became known for selling well made, affordable pieces. Her most popular sellers during this period were her 9K gold bee pins that she cleverly marketed as accessories to hook onto necklaces and earrings.

As her friend, Duncan McLaren, noted in Vanity Fair, “it was all very well done, well presented, lovely boxes. You always wanted to come out of the shop having bought something.” At the height of the Swinging 60s, Annabel’s business at 52 Beauchamp Place was situated opposite San Lorenzo, which would reign in Knightsbridge as the place to eat for London’s well heeled across the worlds of film, fashion, music, sport and high society for close to sixty years. Princess Diana was a notable patron of both San Lorenzo and Annabel Jones during the 1990s.

Annabel was married to Reginald Sheffield (later Sir Reginald Sheffield, 8th Baronet) from 1969-1974. She married her second husband, William Waldorf Astor III, 4th Viscount Astor in 1976. Prior to her Creative Director role with Smythson, Annabel’s daughter, Samantha Cameron née Sheffield (wife of former British Prime Minister, David Cameron), designed Annabelle Jones’ notepaper and jewellery boxes when helping out in her mother’s shop during her teens. Annabel co-founded her furniture and homeware business, OKA, in 1999 and sold her jewellery business, Annabel Jones, to the Scottish jeweller, Hamilton & Inches in 2000.
