Princess Maria-Olympia’s Diamond Fringe Tiara

Happy Birthday to Princess Maria Olympia of Greece and Denmark, who turns 30 today! The eldest grandchild of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie and a goddaughter of King Charles, who studied photography at Parsons and has modelled for Dolce & Gabbana, Princess Maria Olympia  owns this spectacular Diamond Fringe Tiara!

Inspired by the Kokoshniks at the Russian Royal Court, the provenance of this piece is unknown, it was likely created in the late 19th century. The Fringe Tiara was bought at Auction by Chantal Miller, the mother of Crown Princess Marie-Chantal, as a Christening Gift for Princess Maria Olympia in December 1996.

While Princess Maria Olympia was growing up, the Tiara was worn by her mother, Crown Princess Marie Chantal, who first wore it for the Gala Performance and Banquet to celebrate Queen Margrethe’s Silver Jubilee just the following month.

The following year, the Diamond Fringe Tiara was worn by  Crown Princess Marie Chantal for the Wedding of Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg and Count Jefferson von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth in 1998.

In 2004, Crown Princess Marie Chantal wore the Fringe Tiara for the Wedding Gala of Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, the cousin of Crown Prince Pavlos, and two years later, the Fringe Tiara was worn at King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden’s 60th Birthday Banquet.

Crown Princess Marie Chantal also wore the Diamond Fringe Tiara for a Queen Margrethe’s Ruby Jubilee Gala Gala Performance in January 2012, and later that year, the Tiara was worn for the Wedding Gala of Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume of Luxembourg and Countess Stephanie de Lannoy.

In 2013, Crown Princess Marie Chantal wore the Diamond Fringe Tiara for the Wedding of Princess Madeline of Sweden, and four years later, wore the Diamond Fringe Tiara for King Harald and Queen Sonja of Norway’s 80th Birthday Banquet at the Royal Palace of Oslo.

Princess Maria Olympia first wore her Diamond Fringe Tiara at Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark’s 50th Birthday Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace in 2018.

Princess Maria Olympia next wore the Diamond Fringe Tiara for Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s 18th Birthday Banquet at the Royal Palace of Oslo in 2022.

Most recently, the Diamond Fringe Tiara was worn by Crown Princess Marie Chantal for Queen Margrethe’s Golden Jubilee Gala in Copenhagen in 2022, when we saw her in person and there is no doubt we will continue to see this Tiara for years to come!
