Princess Eléonore’s Diamond Tiara

Last night, Princess Eléonore of Belgium made her Tiara debut in an antique Diamond Tiara at the State Banquet for the Japanese Emperor and Empress at the Château de Laeken. The Tiara was an 18th Birthday Gift from King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, and had been acquired at Auction in 2019.

Created by Coosemans Jewellers in Brussels around the turn of the 20th century, the Tiara features rose-cut diamonds in silver and gold, with the central clover element detachable to be worn as a brooch, and the Diamond Riviere at the base also likely detachable. Coosemans also created the Belgian Scroll Tiara.

As discovered by Benjamin Vaesen, in 2019, the Diamond Tiara came up for Auction at Il Ponte Auction House in Milan, where it sold for €26,000 after an estimate of €17,000 – €25,000. It is not known if the Tiara was acquired by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde in 2019 or at a latter date.

In April, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde gave the antique Diamond Tiara as a gift to their youngest daughter, Princess Eléonore, on her 18th Birthday, like the Duchess of Brabant received the Vestey Tiara.

Now, two months later, Princess Eléonore made her Tiara debut in the antique Diamond Tiara at the State Banquet for Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the Château de Laeken last night.

Princess Eléonore paired the Diamond Tiara with a pair of Art Deco Diamond Earrings and a Diamond Bracelet that have also been newly acquired. Let’s hope we see the Tiara worn again soon!
