The Belgian Royal Family celebrated the Engagement of the Duke of Brabant and Mathilde d’Udekem d’Acoz with a Ball at the Royal Château de Laeken on this day in 1999, 25 years ago, a few weeks after their Engagement and only a few weeks before the Wedding.

While the Duke of Brabant and Mathilde d’Udekem d’Acoz had been in a relationship since 1996, it has been a secret kept from the public, who only found out when the Engagement was announced.
The Duke of Brabant and Mathilde d’Udekem d’Acoz were joined by members of the Belgian Royal Family and the d’Udekem d’Acoz Noble Family, who were further ennobled hereditary title of Count/Countess extended to the bride’s father, uncles, and all their descendants.
The Duke of Brabant and Mathilde d’Udekem d’Acoz got married in December, and have four children, acceding to the Belgian Throne in 2013, following the abdication of King Albert II.
