A necklace of sapphires ringed by diamonds with a a pair of coordinating earrings, this modern suite was likely a gift from Count Charles-Albert Ullens de Schooten Whettnall to his wife, Countess Madeleine Bernadotte, who initially wore it to royal events in the 1960s and 70s, including possibly the Wedding of her cousin, King Harald of Norway, in 1968 and the Wedding of Princess Christina of Sweden in 1974, before it was worn at King Harald’s 40th Birthday Gala in 1977,

In 1994, the Sapphire Suite was worn by Countess Madeleine’s elder daughter, Countess Astrid Ullens de Schooten Whettnall, for Prince Henrik’s 60th Birthday Banquet at Fredensborg Palace.

The younger daughter, Countess Sophie Ullens de Schooten Whettnall, wore the Sapphire Suite for the Wedding of Princess Märtha Louise of Norway in 2002.

Countess Sophie also wore the Sapphire Suite for King Harald of Norway’s 70th Birthday Banquet at the Royal Palace of Oslo in 2007, when she was pictured alongside Lady Elizabeth Anson (wearing  Princess Viggo’s Diamond Scroll Tiara). With a series of Royal Events coming up next year, there is no doubt we will continue to see this suite for years to come!
