Danish Opening of Parliament, 1947

King Frederik IX of Denmark gave his first Speech from the Throne during the Rigsdagens Åbning (State Opening of Parliament) at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen on this day in 1947, where he was joined by Queen Ingrid, Hereditary Prince Knud, Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde, Princess Margaretha, Prince and Princess Viggo, Prince George, and Prince Flemming. This was the King’s first Rigsdagens Åbning after his Accession earlier that year.

1947 was the final year there was a Speech from the Throne during the Rigsdagens Åbning. After festivities to mark the 100th Anniversary of the Danish Constitution in 1948, there was no involvement of the Royal Family during the Rigsdagens Åbning, and to this day they remain spectators.
