Wedding of Prince Ernst August of Hanover and Princess Victoria Louise of Prussia, 1913

The Wedding of Prince Ernst August of Hanover, son of Crown Prince Ernest Augustus of Hanover and Princess Thyra of Denmark, and Princess Victoria Louise of Prussia (wearing the Brunswick Tiara), only daughter of Kaiser Wilhelm II and Empress Augusta Victoria, in Berlin on this day in 1913, which was the last gathering of the Royal Houses of Europe before the outbreak of the First World War, which toppled the Thrones of many, including the couple, who were the sovereign Duke and Duchess of Brunswick until 1918. Royal Guests included King George V and Queen Mary from Britain (wearing the George IV State Diadem), and Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, who were the cousins of both the bride and the groom. The Duke and Duchess of Brunswick had five children, including Queen Frederica of Greece, and resided at Blankenburg Castle in Germany (until 1945) and Cumberland Castle in Gmunden, as well as Marienburg Castle in Hanover, remaining happily married until his death in 1953. Princess Victoria Louise passed away in 1980.
