Princess Birgitta of Sweden and Hohenzollern received this delicate Seed Pearl and Diamond Tiara as a wedding gift from her grandfather, King Gustaf VI Adolf, upon her marriage to Prince Johann Georg of Hohenzollern 65 years ago!
Made of small pearl circles separated by small diamonds, with diamonds in the centre of each pearl cluster in the center of the pearl circle, the Pearl Circle Tiara was made by Court Jewellers Carlman in Stockholm in 1961 on the order of King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden as a wedding present for his granddaughter, Princess Birgitta.
Princess Birgitta first wore her grandfather’s wedding gift Tiara for her Wedding Ball at the Royal Palace of Stockholm in 1961, after her marriage to to Prince Johann Georg of Hohenzollern.
Princess Birgitta wore her Pearl Circle Tiara just a few times after her wedding, notably for King Gustaf VI Adolf’s 90th Birthday Banquet in 1972.
Princess Birgitta usually borrowed larger Tiaras from the Swedish or Hohenzollern vaults for grand events, which included Leuchtenberg Sapphire Parure, Queen Maria II’s Sapphire Tiara, Nine Prong Tiara, the Baden Fringe Tiara, the Hohenzollern Sapphire Parure, the Connaught Diamond Tiara and a Diamond Bracelet Bandeau.
In 1990, Princess Birgitta’s only daughter, Princess Désirée of Hohenzollern, wore the Pearl Circle Tiara for her Wedding of the Hereditary Count of Ortenburg in Hechingen.
In 2000, the Pearl Circle Tiara was worn by Uta Maria König when she married Princess Brigitta’s youngest son, Prince Hubertus of Hohenzollern in Palma de Majorca.
These days, the Pearl Circle Tiara was likely worn by Princess Désirée, with notable appearances at the Wedding of Crown Princess Victoria in 2010, the Wedding of the Prince of Prussia and Princess Sophie of Isenburg in 2011, the Wedding of Princess Madeline in 2013, and the Wedding of Prince Carl Philip in 2015.
Most recently, Princess Désirée wore the Pearl Circle Tiara and Princess Sibylla’s Five-Strand Pearl Necklace for King Carl XVI Gustaf’s 80th Birthday Banquet at the Royal Palace of Stockholm last month.
