Happy Birthday to Princess Laurentien of The Netherlands, who turns 60 today! The sister-in-law of the Dutch King, known for her fight against illiteracy and eccentric sartorial choices, Princess Laurentien has worn many spectacular Heirloom Jewels from the Dutch Royal Collection, which includes the Dutch Ears of Wheat Tiara!

In the 1950s, Queen Juliana used eight Diamond Ears of Wheat which had belonged to Queen Catherine of Württemberg, mother of Queen Sophie of the Netherlands, to create this Tiara which can be worn with four, six, or eight ears of wheat.
Earlier, Queen Wilhelmina had worn the Diamond Ears of Wheat around a silk kokoshnik, most notably for her Silver Wedding Anniversary in 1926.
Queen Juliana wore the Diamond Ears of Wheat Tiara on numerous occasions from the 1950s up to the 1970s, with a notable appearance at the Wedding Gala of Princess Margriet in 1967.
In the 1960s, the Ears of Wheat Tiara was often worn by the second daughter, Princess Irene and her youngest sister, Princess Christina.
However, Princess Margriet has been one of the most prolific wearers of the Diamond Ears of Wheat Tiara over several decades, and continues to frequently wear it to this day.
The Ears of Wheat Tiara was worn by Marilène van den Broek for her wedding to Prince Maurits of Orange-Nassau in 1998 and Princess Annette Sekrève for her wedding to Prince Bernhard of Orange-Nassau in 2000.
Princess Margarita of Bourbon-Parma, Countess of Colorno wore the Ears of Wheat Tiara for her wedding to Edwin de Roy van Zuydewijn in 2001.
Also in 2001, the Diamond Ears of Wheat Tiara was worn by Princess Laurentien for the Wedding of Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.
In 2005, the Ears of Wheat Tiara was worn by Anita van Eijk for her Wedding to Prince Pieter-Christiaan of Orange-Nassau and also by Aimée Söhngen for her wedding to Prince Floris of Orange-Nassau.
Most recently, Viktória Cservenyák wore the Diamond Ears of Wheat Tiara for her wedding to Prince Jamie of Bourbon-Parma in 2013. There is no doubt we will continue to see the Tiara worn for years to come!
Queen Máxima has never worn the Ears of Wheat Tiara in public, but has worn Diamond Ears of Wheat in her hair or on hats on a couple of occasions, which were taken from a brooch and are not elements of the Tiara.
