Duchess of Cambridge visits Farms for City Children

The Duchess of Cambridge visited Farms for City Children, to see their work giving young people from inner cities the chance to spend a week on a real working farm, on May 3rd at Wick Court, Arlingham, Gloucester. She joined a school group of pupils and teachers in activities around the farm, and met children’s author Michael Morpurgo, and his wife Clare, to learn more about the organisation they founded in 1976. Queen Silvia in Portugal

Queen Silvia of Sweden visited the Hospicio Princesa Dona Maria Amélia in Funchal in Portugal on May 2nd. The Princess Dona Maria Amelia Hospital (Hospicio Princesa Dona Maria Amélia) is a hospital founded in memory of Princess Maria Amélia of Brazil who died of tuberculosis in Funchal, Portugal in 1853. Her mother, Empress Amélie of Brazil, was a sister of Queen Josefina of Sweden, and succeeding Kings and Queens of Sweden continued to fulfill the legacy of the hospital.  Continue reading

State Opening of Parliament delayed

UPDATE- Due to a delay with the Queen’s Speech, the State Opening of Parliament will take place on Wednesday 21st June

The Annual State Opening of Parliament will take place on June 19th, due to the Snap UK General Election. This year, the Queen will not wear evening dress and robes, and will not travel to the Palace of Westminster in a carriage. The is the first “dressed down” State Opening since March 1974, during a Snap UK Election back then. The annual Garter Service, scheduled for June 19th, has been cancelled.
