Garter Ceremony 2016

The Order of the Garter Ceremony is an annual event at Windsor Castle attended by most members of the British Royal Family. The Order, founded in 1348, is the highest Order of English Chivalry. There can only be 24 Knights apart from the Queen and the Prince of Wales.

Usually, there is a procession of Knights of the Garter, from Windsor Castle to St. George’s Chapel, and a carriage ride, but this year, due to the rainy weather, the Royals and Knights arrived and departed in cars. They attended lunch at the Castle and later a service at St. George’s Chapel. Hundreds of well-wishers lined the route.

HM the Queen wore a gold gown with the Mantle and Bonnet of the Order of the Garter and the Collar and Great George of the Order of the Garter. She also wore her Coronation Earrings. The Duke of Edinburgh wore morning dress with the Mantle, Bonnet, Collar, and Great George of the Order of the Garter.

The Prince of Wales wore morning dress with the Mantle, Bonnet, Collar, and Great George of the Order of the Garter. The Duke of Cambridge also wore morning dress with the Mantle, Bonnet, Collar, and Great George of the Order of the Garter. The Duchess of Cornwall wore a champagne and green embroidered coat by Anna Valentine and a hat by Philip Treacy, with her Pearl Choker with Small Diamond Clasp. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a red coat by Catherine Walker and a hat by Lock & Co, with her wedding earrings, a diamond pendent, and bracelet.

The Earl of Wessex, the Duke of Gloucester and the Duke of York wore morning dress with the Mantle, Bonnet, Collar, and Great George of the Order of the Garter. The Countess of Wessex wore an Alexander McQueen dress with pearl earrings. The Duchess of Gloucester wore a light blue outfit with pearls and diamond clips.
