The July 22nd Attacks were carried out by right-wing terrorist, Anders Behring Breivik, who killed eight people by detonating a van bomb in in Oslo, and then killed 69 participants of a Summer Camp in a mass shooting on the Island of Utøya. The day commemorates July 21st, 1831 in which Prince Leopold of Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha swore allegiance to the new Belgian constitution, thus becoming the first Head of State of an independent state of Belgium under a constitutional monarchy and parliament. The Coronation of King George IV was crowned King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and King of Hanover on this day in 1821, which was the most expensive and extravagant Coronation in British History with a number of traditional ceremonial elements conducted for the last time.
The British Royal Family hosted King Faisal II of Iraq and his uncle, Crown Prince ‘Abd al-Ilah of Hejaz, on their State Visit to Britain on this day in 1956, exactly two years before their gruesome assassination by an anti-imperialist military coup. King Faisal had been educated in the United Kingdom, with his cousin, King Hussein of Jordan, and had reigned with British support.
