Vietnamese State Visit to Denmark

King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark are hosting Vietnamese President Tô Lâm and First Lady Ngô Phương Ly on their State Visit to Denmark from October 19-21, to highlight areas of common interest such as green solutions, health, food, and further regional and international cooperation.

King Frederik X and Queen Mary received the President and First Lady at the Vilhelm Lauritzen Terminal at Copenhagen Airport before the wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument in Kastellet, which was followed by a carriage procession to Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg, where there was another review of the Guard.

The Queen and Mrs. Ngô Phương Ly visited the LIBRARY Rentemestervej and the Court Theatre while the King and the President visited the Niels Bohr Institute, with a demonstration of quantum technology and a visit to one of the Institute’s quantum laboratories.

In the evening, Crown Prince Christian joined King Frederik X and Queen Mary as they hosted a State Banquet in honour of President Tô Lâm and First Lady Ngô Phương Ly at Christiansborg Palace. Both the King and President gave speeches.

Queen Mary wore Queen Alexandrine’s Russian Sapphire Tiara, and Anne of Orange’s Diamond Earrings suspended from Sapphires, with the Order of the Elephant and King Frederik X’s Portrait Order.

Queen Alexandrine of Denmark received this strikingRussian Sapphire Tiara as a wedding gift from Tsar Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra, which was given to her daughter-in-law, Hereditary Princess Caroline Mathilde, and later passed on to her own daughter-in-law, before being auctioned off in 2018.

For the past several years, the Tiara had been on display at the Amalienborg Palace Museum on loan from the private owner, before being acquired by the Danish Royal Collection in 2024, and transformed with the collaboration of Queen Mary to allow it to be worn as a Tiara, Necklace and Brooch.
