Princess Theodora, Margravine of Baden

Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark, Margravine of Baden passed away on this day in 1969. The second daughter of Prince Andrew of Greece and Princess Alice of Battenberg, she was the sister of Princess Margarita (later Princess of Hohenlohe-Langenburg)Princess Cecile (later Grand Duchess of Hesse)Princess Sophie (later Princess George of Hanover), and Prince Phillip (now the Duke of Edinburgh). Spending most of her early life in Greece, the family was forced to flee during the Greek Royal Family’s frequent exiles in the 1920s, residing in Paris until she married Berthold, the Margrave of Baden, son of Prince Max von Baden, the last Chancellor of Imperial Germany, in 1930. The couple had three children, including the current Margrave, and resided between the family’s extensive estates, mainly Schloss Salem, where the current Duke of Edinburgh also resided with them for a period of time. She continued to attend Royal Events in Sweden, Greece, and the UK, where her sister-in-law was Queen. She passed away in Germany on this day in 1969.
