Prince William and Prince Harry joined the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall for the Wedding of Laura Parker-Bowles and Harry Lopes at St Cyriac’s Church in Lacock, Wiltshire on this day in 2006, 20 years ago.
Laura Parker-Bowles, the daughter of Andrew Parker Bowles and Queen Camilla, married chartered accountant Harry Lopes, grandson of the 2nd Baron Roborough and the 2nd Baron Astor of Hever, at St Cyriac’s Church in Lacock, Wiltshire, followed by a reception at Ray Mill House, Queen Camilla’s private home.
Harry – a 29-year-old former Calvin Klein model turned accountant – and Laura, a 27-year-old art gallery manager, saw their big day draw a crowd of 2,000 outside 16th-century St Cyriac’s in the tiny village of Lacock.
Following a short engagement but a lengthy romance, Laura Parker Bowles and Harry Lopes tied the knot at St Cyriac’s church in Wiltshire. The service was traditional with a twist in the form of Sally, the local vicar. The bride, stunning in a dress by Robinson Valentine, was escorted by the three elfin pages, Tarka Ossian and Rowan Brudenell-Bruce, who spent much of the service hitting best man Duncan Westbrook over the head with their floral weapons.
At the reception, guests tucked into fish pie and salad. The cake, made of thousands of chocolate muffins, was cut with Brigadier Parker Bowles’s military sword. After Ayesha Shand caught the bride’s bouquet, the happy couple sped to Claridge’s for the night before heading to Vietnam for their honeymoon.
