German State Visit to Britain

The British Royal Family are hosting German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender at Windsor Castle on their State Visit to the United Kingdom this week, which follows the King and Queen’s State Visit to Germany in 2023.

The Prince and Princess of Wales greeted German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender at Heathrow Airport and traveled with them to Windsor Castle.

King Charles III and Queen Camilla received President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender in an Official Welcome Ceremony in the town of Windsor before a Carriage Procession to Windsor Castle, where there was a Guard of Honour and a Lunch with members of the Royal Family.

Queen Camilla wore Prince Albert’s Sapphire Brooch

The Princess of Wales wore the Prince of Wales Feathers Brooch and Princess Diana’s Sapphire Earrings.

In the evening, King Charles III and Queen Camilla held a State Banquet in honour of President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender at Windsor Castle. Both the King and President gave Speeches.

Queen Camilla wore the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara and Greville Emerald Necklace the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Star of the Order of the Garter, and the Royal Family Order of King Charles III.

The Princess of Wales wore Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet Tiara and her Diamond ChandelierEarrings with the Sash and Star of the Royal Victorian Order, and the Royal Family Order of King Charles III.


The Princess Royal wore her Aquamarine Pine Flower Tiara, the Sash and Star of the Order of the Garter, the Royal Family Order of King Charles III, and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Duchess of Edinburgh wore her Aquamarine Tiara and Sapphire Suite with the Sash and Star of the Royal Victorian Order, the Royal Family Order of King Charles III, and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II.


The Duchess of Gloucester wore the Cartier India Tiara with the Order of the Garter, the Royal Family Order of King Charles III, and the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II.

  1. Great recap of the State Visit. The State Banquet at Windsor Castle seemed magical, with the huge Christmas tree and all the lights shining. Something has been bugging me though… in a very brief moment in videos from the banquet we could see the Principle Private Secretary to Their Majesties Sir Clive Alderton and he is wearing a Sash of some sort (at 3:23 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcAH56lNiKM). Has anybody been able to identify this Order? I thought for a moment that he might have been awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, but the colours are in reverse order, so it is not this. Has he been awarded the Order of Merit of Liechtenstein??
