— Royal Collection Trust (@RCT) October 23, 2018King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary, Princess Elizabeth, Princess Margaret, the Earl of Athlone and Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone welcome Queen Wilhelmina of Netherlands, in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace on this day in 1946, when she presented 36 Horses to the King on behalf of the Dutch Government, to thank him for offering refuge and aid during the Second World War.

During the visit, the King was also given the Military William Order (Willems-Orde) by Queen Wilhelmina, which was displayed for King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands on their State Visit to the United Kingdom in 2018.
