Crown Prince Leopold of Belgium, the son of King Albert I of Belgium and Duchess Elisabeth in Bavaria, married Princess Astrid of Sweden, daughter of Prince Carl and Princess Ingeborg of Sweden, in a Civil Ceremony in the Throne Room of the Royal Palace of Stockholm officiated by Mayor Carl Lindhagen and followed by a Banquet hosted by King Gustav V.

The civil ceremony of marriage between the Duke of Brabant, eldest son of the King and Queen of the Belgians, and Princess Astrid, daughter of Prince Oscar Charles (brother of the King of Sweden), took place in the Throne room of the Royal Palace at Stockholm.

Following the Civil Ceremony, the Royal Guests and Relatives joined the newlywed Belgian Crown Prince and Crown Princess for a  Gala Performance at the Kungliga Operan in Stockholm

The opera which followed the wedding  shows scene in the royal box. The group includes the Queen of Denmark, the King of Sweden, the Queen of the Belgians, the bride and bridegroom, the King of the Belgians. Princess Ingeborg (bride’s mother), and the King of Denmark.

The King (uncle of the bride) and Queen of Denmark and the King (uncle of the bride) and Crown Prince of Norway joined the King of Sweden (uncle of the bride) and the King and Queen of Belgium (parents of the groom) in leading the various Royal Guests and Relatives who had gathered from around Europe.

Astrid’s eight bridesmaids, all of whom wore apricot-colored silk gowns include her sister Märtha, Princess Marie José of Belgium, Princess Ingrid of Sweden, and Princess Feodora of Denmark.

The Civil Wedding of Crown Prince Leopold of Belgium and Princess Astrid of Sweden in the Throne Room of the Royal Palace of Stockholm on this day in 1926, officiated by Mayor Carl Lindhagen and followed by a banquet hosted by King Gustav V.  Royal guests and relatives included King Albert and Queen Elisabeth of Belgium (in her Diamond Bandeau), Princess Marie Jose of Belgium, Prince Carl and Princess Ingeborg of Sweden (wearing her Emerald Parure Tiara), Princess Margrethe of Denmark and Princess Martha of Sweden, King Haakon VII and Crown Prince Olav of Norway,  King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine of Denmark, and Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg. The previous evening, the bride had baked a chocolate cake for her fiancee’s 25^th birthday, after welcoming the Belgian Royal Family to Sweden. The couple got married in a religious ceremony in Brussels a few days later.
