Danish Royal Tiaras

On January 1st, Queen Margrethe of Denmark will host the annual New Year’s Court at Christian VII’s Palace, Amalienborg. This is one of the grandest Danish Royal events of the year, and we see Queen Margrethe, Crown Princess Mary, and Princess Marie decked out in their finest. While the Danish Royal family don’t have the large jewel vaults of their British and Swedish cousins, they still have a substantial collection of twelve tiaras many with illustrious histories, and even a few examples of modern design. Devonshire Parure

The Dukes of Devonshire are one of the wealthiest and most illustrious aristocrats in England, with a magnificent collection based at Chatsworth House, and being featured in ‘Treasures from Chatsworth, Presented by Huntsman,’ an original video series produced by Sotheby’s. British Royals at Christmas 2016

Members of the British Royal family attended the annual Christmas Service at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk on December 25th. Most of the members of the family are staying with the Queen at Sandringham House for the Holidays. The Queen missed both the services since she is recovering from a heavy cold. Another absence was Zara Phillips, who recently suffered a miscarriage. The family attended the early morning service, which receives little media attention, and the pre-afternoon service, which is usually attended by all of the Queen’s guests. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte attended a service at St Mark’s Church in Englefield, Berkshire, where they are spending Christmas with the Duchess’s family. Norwegian Royal Tiaras 2016

The Norwegian Royal ladies had a nice amount of Tiara appearances this year, starting with the official portraits released for King Harald’s Silver Jubilee in January, and continuing with a Gala dinner for the diplomatic corps in March, outgoing State Visits to Italy and Finland, a banquet during the Singapore State Visit, and a dinner for members of the Norwegian Parliament in October. Swedish Royal Tiaras 2016

Happy Birthday to Queen Silvia of Sweden, who turns 73 today. The Swedish Royal family had a Tiara filled year starting with a representation Dinner and fairy tale party in February. They hosted the world’s royalty at King Carl Gustav’s 70th Birthday celebrations though only Queen Silvia attended Chilean State Banquet. There were two tiaras during the Swedish State Visit to Germany, and four tiaras each night at the Nobel Prize Banquet and King’s Dinner for Nobel Laureates. This made for a grand total of eleven Tiaras worn eighteen times this year. There were more tiaras worn by the King’s sisters, but covering them would have made this list endless. Continue reading

As part of our Year in review series, we take a look at the the Royal Tiaras of 2016. With the grand 70th Birthday celebrations of King Carl XVI Gustav to the guests at the Albanian Royal Wedding in October, this year has been filled with Royal Tiaras. Here we will look at the Tiaras from each country. This is by no means a comprehensive list, as we haven’t covered Japan or exiled royal families, but it includes events we have covered on this blog.
