Featuring three round turquoise medallions in a gold and turquoise band, the exact origin of the Turquoise Bandeau Tiara is unknown but it appears to have be a jewel in the traditional Bhutanese style.

The Turquoise Bandeau was notably pictured on Princess Ashi Dechan Wangmo, who wore it for the Coronation of her brother, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, in 1974.

Despite wearing two tiaras during her wedding celebrations in 2011, Queen Jetsun Pema chose to wear the smaller Turquoise Bandeau for Emperor Naruhito’s Enthronement Banquet in 2019, when it was paired with coordinating earrings and a pearl necklace.

Queen Jetsun Pema also for the Necklace and Earrings at the Wedding of Prince ‘Abdul Mateen of Brunei and Anisha Rosnah binti Adam at the Istana Nurul Iman in Bandar Seri Begawan in 2024. Lets hope we see this royal heirloom worn again soon!

  1. What a beautiful bandeau! I love the combination of turquoise and yellow gold. And of course, it looks wonderful on Queen Jetsun Pema’s lovely dark hair. I wish her joy on her birthday!
