Happy Birthday to Crown Prince Christian of Denmark! The eldest child of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, he is now first-in-line to the Danish throne. Prince Christian was christened at the Christiansborg Palace Chapel and his godparents include Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Prince Joachim of Denmark, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, and Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece. Prince Christian is the eldest of four siblings: Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, and attends the Tranegård School in Hellerup. Prince Christian does not undertake official duties, but attends some family events. We wish HRH a very Happy Birthday and Many Happy Returns!

The Danish Royal Family celebrated Prince Christian’s 18th Birthday in October 2023 with an appearance on the Balcony of Amalienborg Palace and a grand Gala Dinner at Christiansborg Palace.

On the occasion of HRH The Crown Prince’s 21st birthday, new official gala portraits are being published, in which the Crown Prince wears the red gala uniform of the Royal Life Guards for the first time. The portraits were taken in the Vestibule of Christian VII’s Palace at Amalienborg in the run-up to the birthday. The official portraits can be downloaded for a limited period for editorial use in connection with the birthday.

On the occasion of the Crown Prince’s 21st birthday, HM the King has awarded the Crown Prince the Grand Commander’s Cross of the Order of the Dannebrog. Grand Commander is the highest degree of the Order of the Dannebrog, which is only awarded to princely (royal) persons who are already elephant knights. There are currently seven Grand Commanders of the Order of the Dannebrog. In addition to the King and Queen and the Crown Prince, the Grand Commander’s Cross is also worn by HM Queen Margrethe, HRH Prince Joachim, HRH Princess Benedikte and HM King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. King Harald V of Norway, who passed away in August, was also a Grand Commander of the Order of the Dannebrog.

The Crown Prince’s Grand Commander’s Cross was most recently awarded by Frederik IX and therefore continues to bear Frederik IX’s nameplate. In the coming time, it will be restored, and the nameplate will be replaced by the King’s. In the gala portraits, the Crown Prince wears the Order of the Elephant and the Grand Commander’s Cross, both with a breast star, as well as the commemorative medals and commemorative medals that His Royal Highness has received. The commemorative medals mark Queen Margrethe’s birthdays in 2010, 2015 and 2020, the reigning jubilees in 2012 and 2022, the then regent couple’s golden wedding in 2017 and Prince Henrik’s 75th birthday in 2009. In addition, there is Prince Henrik’s Memorial Medal from 2018.
