Happy Anniversary to the Duke and Duchess of Kent, who got married on this day in 1961 at York Cathedral. The wedding between the Queen’s cousin and the daughter of a Baronet attracted a lot of public interest, especially from Yorkshire, for their native bride and the first Royal Wedding at York Minister since 1315. The couple have three children and supported the Queen for many years before she retired from Royal Duties in 2002. The Duke still continues with his duties. The couple reside at Kensington Palace. Wedding of the Duke of Windsor

One of the most controversial royal couples of the past century, former British King Edward VIII wed twice-divorced American Wallis Simpson at the Château de Candé in France on this day in 1937. After a romance which had led the former King abdicate his throne for “the woman I love”, the couple had a small, quiet ceremony, which wasn’t attended by any members of his family. However, despite living in exile for the rest of their lives, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor had a happy marriage and remained devoted to each other until his death in 1972.
