Today, we will feature their 1979 State Visit, when they were hosted by Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik, which according to Getty Images took place on this day in 1979, but instead took place on May 16 and 17. Take a look below at highlights from the State Visit-
After the Official Welcome ceremony, the Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Margrethe made a balcony appearance with their respective consorts on the balcony of Amalienborg Palace.
Later, in more casual dress (the Queens having taken of their coats and the consorts changed into less formal uniform), the British Royal Couple were hosted by Queen Margrethe (in a rare daytime appearance of Queen Alexandrine’s Sapphires) and Prince Henrik at their residence.
In the evening, Queen Margrethe (wearing the Danish Emerald Parure) hosted a State Banquet at Christiansborg Palace in honour of Queen Elizabeth II (wearing the Burmese Ruby Tiara and Baring Ruby Necklace) and the Duke of Edinburgh.
Queen Elizabeth (wearing the Brazilian Aquamarine Tiara and Parure) hosted a return Banquet on the Royal Yacht Britannia for Queen Margrethe (wearing the Alexandrine Drop Tiara), Prince Henrik, and Dowager Queen Ingrid (wearing the Khedive of Egypt Tiara).
