Crown Princess Kiko’s Diamond Tiara

Happy Birthday to Crown Princess Kiko of Japan, who turns 60 today! The ‘Apartment Princess’ set to be the next Japanese Empress, the Crown Princess now usually wears the Diamond Scroll Tiara, but for almost three decades, she usually wore her own Mikimoto Diamond Tiara and Necklace!

When Kiko Kawashima married Prince Akishino of Japan, the younger son of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, in 1990, she received this magnificent Mikimoto Diamond Tiara and Necklace,

The Mikimoto Diamond Tiara was worn by Princess Kiko for her Wedding to Prince Akishino of Japan at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo in 1990.

Just a few months later, Princess Kiko wore the Mikimoto Diamond Tiara and Necklace for the Enthronement Banquet of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko of Japan at the Imperial Palace of Tokyo in 1991.

Over the years, the Mikimoto Diamond Tiara and Necklace were worn by Princess Kiko at numerous New Year’s Receptions at the Imperial Palace of Tokyo, where the Princess was usually the second-highest ranking Lady after the Empress due to the illness of the Crown Princess Masako.

Princess Kiko wore her Diamond Tiara for the State Banquets at the Imperial Palace during the Dutch State Visit in 2014 and the Belgian State Visit to Japan in 2016.

Princess Kako also wore her Mikimoto Diamond Tiara at the State Banquets during the Spanish State Visit to Japan and the Luxembourg State Visit to Japan in 2017 among others, as well as the Japanese New Year’s Receptions in 2018.

The Mikimoto Diamond Tiara and Necklace were worn by Princess Kiko for the final time at the Japanese New Year’s Reception in 2019, following which she has solely worn the Crown Princess’ Diamond Scroll Tiara, though her Tiara and Parure remain in her possession. Let’s hope it reappears soon!
