Queen Zarith Sofiah’s Diamond Tiara

Happy Birthday to Queen Raja Zarith Sofiah of Malaysia, who turns 67 today! The accomplished Perak Princess who is the consort of the Sultan of Johor and the current Raja Permaisuri Agong (Queen) of Malaysia, Queen Zarith Sofiah has gained access to the Gandik Diraja Tiara but has a spectacular collection of jewels, including this Diamond Tiara!

When Princess Raja Zarith Sofiah married the Tunku Mahkota (Crown Prince) of Johor, Tunku Ibrahim Ismail, in 1982, she seems to have received this striking Diamond Tiara, likely as a gift from either her father-in-law, the Sultan of Johor, or her father, the Sultan of Perak. The Tiara shares many design similarities with the British Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.

Princess Raja Zarith Sofiah of Perak notably wore the Diamond Tiara when she married the Tunku Mahkota (Crown Prince) of Johor in 1982.

Two years later, the Diamond Tiara was worn by Raja Zarith Sofiah’s mother, Raja Perempuan (Queen) Muzwin of Perak for the Installation of the Sultan of Johor as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, which does not seem to have been attended by Crown Princess Raja Zarith Sofiah.

The Diamond Tiara was worn by Crown Princess Raja Zarith Sofiah for the Wedding Banquet of the Crown Prince of Pahang and her sister-in-law, Princess Azizah of Johor, at the Istana Abu Bakar in Pekan.

While Raja Zarith Sofiah had other Tiaras as Crown Princess, the Diamond Tiara was her primary jewel over several decades, worn for numerous royal events and in several portraits.

These days, Queen Zarith Sofia’s Diamond Tiara is now primarily worn by Che’ Puan Mahkota (Crown Princess) Khaleeda, most notably for the Sultan of Johor’s 65th Birthday and the King of Malaysia’s Installation Banquet in 2024.

Queen Zarith Sofiah wore the Diamond Tiara for the State Opening of Malaysian Parliament in 2024, before she began wearing the Gandik Diraja Tiara, and there is no doubt the Tiara will be worn for years to come!

However, most recently, the Queen Zarith Sofiah’s Diamond Tiara was worn by her niece, Raja Sarina Intan Bahiyah of Perak, for her Wedding to Muhammad Firdaus bin Muhammad Sukor in 2025.
