King Charles III and Queen Camilla are on their first State Visit to the United States of America this week, to mark the 250th Anniversary of American Independence, which is the latest in almost 170 years of British Royal Visits to the United States. The American President made a State Visit to the United Kingdom last year.
The King Charles III and Queen Camilla (wearing the Cullinan V Brooch) were officially welcomed to the United States with a State Arrival Ceremony at the White House, which featured a ceremonial military review.
Following a speech by the President, the Presidential Couple joined the King and Queen on the South Portico Balcony for the march past.
The King joined the President for a bilateral meeting in the Oval Office, while the Queen and First Lady joined American students for a cross-cultural educational event at the White House Tennis Pavilion.
Along with the Foreign Secretary, British Ambassador and his Private Secretary, King Charles III met with the Speaker of the House Mike Johnson during a bicameral, bipartisan leadership meeting ahead of a joint meeting of Congress.
Afterwards, King Charles III delivered an address to a joint session of the U.S. Congress, becoming only the second Monarch after the late Queen in 1991.
In the evening, President Trump and the First Lady will hold a State Dinner for King Charles and Queen Camilla at the White House.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla flew from RAF Brize Norton on the GBNI “Baby Voyager” and landed at Joint Base Andrews (JBA) in Camp Springs, Maryland near Washington D.C., where they were received by dignitaries including the British Ambassador, Sir Christian Turner.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla were received by President Trump and the First Lady for a private tea at the White House, ahead of tomorrow’s Official Welcome.
The King and Queen also joined the President and First Lady on the South Lawn of the White House to inspect the new beehives.
Later, King Charles and Queen Camilla attended a Garden Party held at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Washington D.C., which brought together a wide variety of guests representing the connections between the two countries.
Queen Camilla is wearing a Union Flag/Stars and Stripes Brooch presented to the late Queen by the Mayor of New York in 1957.
