The Danish Royal Court has announced that King Frederik X and Queen Mary of Denmark will pay a State Visit to Australia from March 14-19, which will be their first State Visit outside Europe following Sweden, Norway, Greenland, Finland, France, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
Their Majesties The King and Queen will pay a state visit to Australia from 14-19 March 2026. The Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister for Foreign Affairs and the Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities will accompany The Royal Couple during the visit, which will also include a large Danish business delegation.
The state visit will further develop the already strong relations between Australia and Denmark, both culturally, economically and in foreign policy. A strengthened partnership with Australia is particularly important at a time when geopolitical upheavals have economic and security policy consequences that bind developments in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region together. Building on the strategic partnership that was entered into between Australia and Denmark in 2023, the state visit will strengthen cooperation in a wide range of areas, including green transition and economic security.
During their six-day visit, Their Majesties will visit the Northern Territory, the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and Tasmania, for a number of business and cultural engagements. This will be Their Majesties’ fourth official visit to Australia, and their first since His Majesty The King’s ascension to the Danish throne.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said:
“It is an honour to welcome Their Majesties The King and Queen of Denmark back to Australia.
“It is wonderful that the visit includes many parts of our great country, from the Northern Territory to Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory, and of course Tasmania.
“Denmark and Australia are great friends, and together we are working to build a more sustainable, secure and peaceful future.
“This visit is an opportunity to deepen our cooperation across a number of shared interests such as sustainability, renewable energy and innovation.
“Their Majesties The King and Queen of Denmark have a very special connection with Australia, and I know Australians will welcome them.”
Green transition will be a focus area during the visit. 55 Danish companies travelling with them are participating in the official business promotion “Partnering for a Green, Secure and Sustainable Tomorrow”. It is intended to promote cooperation within renewable energy and energy-efficient urban development.
Finally, Denmark and Australia share an interest in nature and cultural conservation, and nature and cultural elements will be included as part of the state visit.
