Infanta Alicia’s Diamond Earrings

For her Wedding to Luis Martínez-Almeida, the Mayor of Madrid, last week, Teresa Urquijo y Moreno modified the Wedding Dress of her grandmother, Princess Teresa of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, and wore a pair of Diamond Earrings originating from her great-grandmother, Infanta Alicia, Duchess of Calabria!

When Princess Alicia of Bourbon-Parma, daughter of Duke of Parma and Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria, married Infante Alfonso, Duke of Calabria, son of Prince Carlos of Bourbon-Two Sicilies and Mercedes, Princess of Asturias, in 1936, various family heirlooms were reset by Chaumet into a spectacular Sapphire Parure, a Ruby Parure and a Pearl and Diamond Parure. All three Parures featured Earrings composed of a diamond, from which two rows of diamonds suspended either a pearl, a sapphire ringed in diamonds, and a ruby set in diamonds.

Infanta Alicia primarily wore the Chaumet Sapphire Tiara, most notably at the the Wedding of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia in 1962, before it was sold at Auction in 1984.

The Chaumet Ruby Parure was inherited by her elder daughter, Princess Teresa of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, who married Iñigo Moreno y Arteaga, 12th Marquess of Laula in 1961, and wore the Tiara and Parure on numerous occasions before the Parure was Auctioned in 1996.

When Princess Teresa of Bourbon-Two Sicilies married in 1961, she wore a smaller version of the Pearl and Diamond Earrings given to her mother, which were periodically worn by various family members over the next few years.

After the Ruby Parure was auctioned, Princess Teresa wore what appears to be Infanta Alicia’s Pearl and Diamond Earrings set with large Diamonds, paired with the Chaumet Ruby Necklace for the wedding of one of her children.

In 2004, Princess Teresa was the only lady to wear a Tiara, which she paired with these Diamond Earrings, for the Wedding Gala of Grown Prince Felipe of Spain at the El Pardo Palace in Madrid.

The Chaumet Ruby Tiara was sold off at some point in the years following, and after Infanta Alicia’s death in 2017, many of her illustrious heirloom jewels were auctioned in the landmark ‘Royal Jewels from the Bourbon Parma Family’ Sale at Sotheby’s in Geneva.

However, the Diamond Earrings remain with Princess Teresa and were worn last week by her granddaughter, Teresa Urquijo y Moreno, for her Wedding to Luis Martínez-Almeida, the Mayor of Madrid, in the Iglesia San Francisco de Borja in Madrid, which was attended by several members of the Spanish Royal Family.

Along with the Diamond Earrings, Teresa Urquijo y Moreno wore the Wedding Dress worn by her grandmother, Princess Teresa, which had also been worn by her mother, Beatriz Moreno y de Borbón, for her wedding in 1995.
