Following the Abdication of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, King Frederik X and Queen Mary held a Court for special guests at Christiansborg Palace.
King Frederik X stepped out onto the Balcony of Christiansborg Palace, where Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen proclaimed the Tronskifte:
“Queen Margrethe II has Abdicated, Long Live King Frederik X!”
The new King gave a Speech:
My mother, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe the 2nd has ruled Denmark for 52 years.
Through half a century, she has followed the times with our common heritage as a starting point.
She will always be remembered as a regent beyond the ordinary.
My mother, like few, has managed to be at one with her kingdom.
Today, the throne passes on. My hope is to become a gathering king of tomorrow.
It is a task I have approached all my life.
It is a responsibility I take on with respect, pride and great joy.
It is a deed I will make an effort to carry through the trust I encounter.
I need all the support I can get.
From my beloved wife, from my family, from you and from that which is greater than us. I face the future with the certainty that I am not alone.
Bound, bound, for the Kingdom of Denmark.
The new King was joined by Queen Mary and Crown Prince Christian, Princess Isabella, Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine on the Balcony.
After the proclamation, the King and Queen Mary rode in a carriage escorted by the Guardhussar Regiment’s Horse Squadron from Christiansborg Palace to Frederik VIII’s Palace, Amalienborg, through the streets of Copenhagen, appearing again on the Balcony of Frederik VIII’s Palace.
Crown Prince Frederik wore Uniform with his medals, the Sash and Star of the Order of the Elephant, and the insignia of his other Orders. Crown Princess Mary wore a white gown with the Danish Ruby Parure Earrings, Brooch and Hairclips and Queen Margrethe’s Portrait Order.
