Belgian State Visit to Germany

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are on a State Visit to the Federal Republic of Germany at the invitation of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender, from December 5th to the 7th. The State Visit is a confirmation of the good relations between the two nations; politically, economically, scientifically and culturally.

Upon arrival in Berlin, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde were welcomed by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender in an official Welcome Ceremony at the Schloss Bellevue, the official residence of the Federal President of Germany, where the King reviewed the Guard of Honour.

The two couples had an audience before exchanging gifts and the Belgian Order of Leopold, followed by a meeting between the German and Belgian delegations.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde met the Mayor of Berlin at the Brandenburg Gate before visiting the Rotes Rathaus, the City Hall in Berlin. Afterwards, the King and Queen laid a wreath at the Neue Wache, the monument to the victims of war and violence.

In the evening, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender hosted a State Banquet in honour of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde at Schloss Bellevue, with the guests including Hereditary Prince Hubertus and Hereditary Princess Kelly of Saxe-Coburg und Gotha. Both the King and the President gave speeches celebrating the German-Belgian relationship.

Queen Mathilde repeated an Armani Gown with the Bandeau of the Nine Provinces Tiara, her Diamond Fringe Earrings, a Diamond Necklace, and Queen Fabiola’s Ruby Bracelet.
