Württemberg Diamond Tiara

Royal Guests and Relatives from around Europe are expected to attend the Wedding of Duchess Amelie of Württemberg, daughter of the late Hereditary Duke Friedrich of Württemberg and Princess Marie of Wied and sister of the current Duke of Württemberg, and Baron Franz-Ferdinand von Feilitzsch at Schloss Altshausen tomorrow, and while we have already taken a brief look at the Württemberg Tiaras, this is the perfect opportunity to feature the Württemberg Bridal Diadem!

A striking antique Diamond Tiara of unknown origin, this Tiara shares design similarities with a spectacular Diamond Tiara created for Queen Pauline of Württemberg by Court Jeweller August Heinrich Kuhn in 1820, which was later worn by Queen Charlotte of Württemberg and is now on display at the Landesmuseum in Stuttgart. The current Württemberg Royal Family descends from the Ducal branch of the Family after the Royal branch died out in 1921, and this heirloom was likely created for that branch.

This Diamond Tiara first publicly appeared when it was worn by Duchess Marie-Thérèse of Württemberg for her Wedding to Prince Henri, Count of Clermont at the Chapelle Royale de Dreux in 1957.

The following year, the Diamond Tiara was worn by Duchess Elisabeth of Württemberg for her Wedding to Prince Antoine of Bourbon-Two Sicilies at Schloss Altshausen.

In 1960, Duchess Maria Christina of Württemberg, the eldest sister, wore the Diamond Tiara for the Wedding Ball of her brother, Duke Carl of Württemberg, and Princess Diane of Orléans at Schloss Altshausen.

The next year, Duchess Helene of Württemberg wore the Diamond Tiara when she married Federico Pallavicini, Marchese Pallavicini at Schloss Altshausen.

Princess Diane of Orléans, Duchess of Württemberg was only pictured in this Diamond Tiara once, at the Wedding Ball of Prince Juan Carlos of Spain and Princess Sophia of Greece at the Royal Palace of Athens in 1962.

When Duchess Mathilde of Württemberg married Hereditary Count Erich of Waldburg zu Zeil and Trauchburg in 1988, she wore another family Tiara but this Diamond Tiara was worn for the Wedding Ball hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Württemberg the previous evening at Schloss Altshausen.

Similarly, Princess Marie of Wied wore a larger Diamond Tiara on her Wedding Day, but wore the Diamond Tiara for the Ball hosted by the Duke and Duchess of Württemberg at Schloss Altshausen on the eve of her Wedding to Hereditary Duke Friedrich of Württemberg in 1993.

In 2003, the Diamond Tiara was worn by Duchess Fleur of Württemberg, the youngest daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Württemberg, for her Wedding to Count Moritz von Goëss at Schloss Altshausen.

Most recently, the Württemberg Diamond Tiara was worn by Duchess Sophie of Württemberg, daughter of Duke Philipp of Württemberg and Duchess Marie-Caroline in Bavaria and a granddaughter of the then Duke and Duchess of Württemberg, for her Wedding to Count Maximilien d’Andigné at Schloss Tegernsee, one of the residences of her maternal grandparents, the Duke and Duchess in Bavaria, in 2018. There is little doubt this Diamond Tiara will be worn by Duchess Amelie tomorrow and for many years to come!

As expected, Duchess Amelie of Württemberg is wearing the Württemberg Bridal Diadem for her Wedding to Baron Franz-Ferdinand von Feilitzsch at Schloss Altshausen.

  1. The bride looked stunning. And wearing her mother’s wedding dress, which is fabulous, and this glittering heirloom only added to the splendour of it all. Too bad the reception following the wedding was not full of glittering tiaras though.
