Royal Family leave London, 1963

The Prince of Wales, Princess Anne, and Prince Andrew were joined by their nanny Mabel Anderson and the corgis as they departed London from Euston Station on this day in 1963, en route to Balmoral Castle for their annual Summer Holiday, while the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh were on a Tour of Wales.

Two days earlier, Prince Charles had arrived at Liverpool Street Station in London with Princess Margaret and the Earl of Snowdon, after spending the bank holiday weekend at Sandringham House in Norfolk.

1963 was a fairly busy year for the Royal Family, with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s Tour of Australia and New Zealand, the Belgian State Visit, the Wedding of Princess Alexandra of Kent, and the Greek State Visit ahead of the Queen’s confinement due to the Birth of Prince Edward early the following year.
