German Official Visit to Luxembourg 

Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg are hosting German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender on their Official Visit to Luxembourg on July 10th, to mark the 175th Anniversary of the 1848 Constitution.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender were welcomed by Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa in an Official Welcome Ceremony outside the Grand Ducal Palace, which was followed by an Audience as well as the laying of a wreath at the ‘Monument de la Solidarité Nationale‘, the national war memorial of Luxembourg.

Later, the Grand Ducal Couple joined the President and First Lady on a visit to the National Archives and the great Council Room for a meeting with the Youth Parliament. The Grand Duchess and First Lady visited the exhibition “We rape – The history of misogyny”, while the President and Grand Duke went to the National Fire and Rescue Center (CNIS) at Cloche d’Or.

In the evening, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa were joined by Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume as they hosted a Gala Dinner for  President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender at the Grand Ducal Palace.

Both the Grand Duke and President gave speeches, with the former saying:

“Young people hold the keys to our future. It will be a difficult inheritance. However, I am firmly convinced that if we continue to build on what Germany and Luxembourg have in common today, namely our belief in democracy, the rule of law and human dignity, they will master it.”

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa is wearing Grand Duchess Joséphine Charlotte’s Art Deco Sapphire Necklace, which can also be worn as a Tiara.
