Dutch State Visit to Belgium

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium are hosting King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of The Netherlands on their State Visit to Belgium from June 20th to the 22nd, which is the latest in the close relationship between the Dutch and Belgian Royal Families over decades. The themes of the visit are improving social and physical quality of life, combating climate change, maintaining and promoting a safe society and a sustainable future in which energy is green and affordable. The visit contributes to the further deepening of the intensive cooperation, in which the Netherlands and Belgium strive for a safe, clean and sustainable future.

Dutch Royal Visits to Belgium

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima arrived at the Brussel Midi Station on the Royal Train, championing the visit’s theme of sustainability and combating climate change.

Afterwards, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima were received by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde in an Official Welcome Ceremony at the Royal Palace in Brussels that included a review of the Guard of Honour, and was followed by an introduction of the Dutch Delegation and a Lunch.

In the afternoon, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Brussels before visiting the Federal Parliament and meeting with Prime Minister Alexander de Croo in the Lambermont. Afterwards, both Kings and Queens were received by the Mayor of Brussels at the Town Hall, before walking on the Grand Place.


In the evening, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde hosted a State Banquet in honour of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at the Royal Chateau of Laeken, at which both Kings gave Speeches. Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz, Archduke of Austria-Este were also present.

Queen Máxima wore the House Diamond Tiara and Necklace with the Order of Leopold while Queen Mathilde wore the Nine Provinces Tiara, Diamond Fringe Earrings, and the Wolfers Necklace with the Order of the Netherlands Lion.

King Philippe wore the Order of the Netherlands Lion while King Willem-Alexander wore the Order of Leopold.

Princess Astrid wore the Savoy-Aosta Tiara and the Order of the Crown while Prince Lorenz, Archduke of Austria-Este wore the Order of the Crown.
