Royal Guests and the British Aristocracy joined the Queen and members of the Royal Family for a splendid Coronation Gala Performance of ‘Gloriana’ at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden on this day in 1953, 70 years ago, to celebrate the Queen’s Coronation.

The Queen (wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara and the Coronation Necklace and Earrings) and Duke of Edinburgh (in the Order of the Garter) were the guests of honour and were thus the last to arrive.

Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent (in the Kent City of London Fringe Tiara) and Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood (wearing the Harewood Scroll Tiara)

The Earl of Athlone and Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone (wearing her Diamond Palmette Tiara) with Princess Marie Louise (in the Cartier India Tiara).

Countess Mountbatten (in her Pearl and Diamond Tiara) and Lady Pamela (wearing her Diamond Necklace), Mary, Duchess of Devonshire (in the Devonshire Honeysuckle Tiara), and Helen, Duchess of Northumberland (in the Strawberry Leaf Coronet) among a host of British Aristocrats.
